Soldera Case Basse 2013 ToscanaRegular price £564.95
Gianfranco Soldera, who died in 2019, was one of Italy's greatest winemakers. In 1972 he and his wife Graziella purchased an abandoned farmhouse south-west of Montalcino and planted two vineyards. In the years that followed, Gianfranco's uncompromisingly perfectionist approach established a truly stellar reputation for his wine, which is still the pinnacle of Brunello di Montalcino (despite now being labelled as plain 'Toscana') and the Sangiovese variety. This is a rare, precious wine that is certainly among the top ten in the world. It is magnificently complex and extraordinarily ageworthy - a wine to add to your once-in-a-lifetime list.
