Planeta 2017 Eruzione 1614 Carricante
1614 marked the start of a legendary eruption of Mount Etna which went on for ten years. Planeta make great wine all over Sicily, and this Etna white is an excellent example. Here the traditional Etna white grape, Carricante, is blended with 10% Riesling. The wine is dry, steely and mineral, with the great intensity that seems to be the hallmark of wine from volcanic soils.
The Carricante and the Riesling are quite similar in character here, giving citrus, green fruits and a touch of something smoky/mineral like mature Riesling but not petrol-like. Extremely dry and mineral on the palate, tight, intense and long. Grip and persistence. Almost too crisp but just on the right side of extreme.
