Papaioannou Nemea 'Microclima' 2005
- 12+ in stock
According to Hugh Johnson's Pocket Wine Book, 'If Nemea were Burgundy, Thanassis Papaioannou would have been Jayer'. Make of that what you will, but these are certainly some of the best wines in Nemea, home of one of Greece's finest red grape varieties, Agiorgitiko. Microclima comes from a tiny section of vineyard where the vines are especially old. These produce a unique wine which ages very slowly, unfurling over many years in the bottle like fine Bordeaux. It has lovely fruit, a leafy, menthol note and a fine structure. A beautifully balanced, amazingly ageworthy, Greek classic.
Very dark crimson. Rather a double take on this wine as it almost smells like mature Cabernet! Fully evolved bouquet with fine acidity and real bite. Great for drinking now. Such attack!16.5 points
