Niepoort was founded in 1842 by Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, who was born in Holland and emigrated to Portugal. It has remained an independent family-run business ever since, and is currently in the hands of the endlessly experimental Dirk Niepoort. Dirk produces a bewildering range of wines and Ports, which are without exception of very fine quality. The Nat Cool wines are Dirk's full-blown foray into the natural wine world. The red is made from Baga and is a juicy, thirst-quenching wine so easy to drink it has to come in a litre bottle.
