Niepoort was founded in 1842 by Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, who was born in Holland and emigrated to Portugal. It has remained an independent family-run business ever since, and is currently in the hands of the endlessly experimental Dirk Niepoort. Dirk produces a bewildering range of wines and Ports, which are without exception of very fine quality. The 'Drink Me' wines (known under many different names around the world) are always great value, classic Douro blends made for drinking on release.
