Dirk Niepoort says that he had often passed Morgadio da Calçada, a fine 17th century manor house, and wished he could make their wines. Lo and behold, they had the same idea and it is now one of Dirk's many projects. It's a very fine one at that, producing brilliant wines across the board. The Ruby Reserve is particularly good value. It is rich, plummy and every bit the equal of many pricier LBVs.
