Monteraponi 2013 Baron' Ugo
Regular price £69The Radda area of Chianti Classico has become a focal point for those who love the pure elegance of Sangiovese in its Tuscan heartland. Some of the best and most exciting producers in the region are here, frequently farming organically and choosing to operate outside the Chianti Classico appellation. If there is a Radda style, it leans more towards elegance than weight. This is where Tuscan Sangiovese comes closest to Burgundian Pinot Noir. Monteraponi's 'Baron' Ugo' is a beautiful example. Made with fruit from vines more than 40 years old, it is a blend of 90% Sangiovese with 7% Canaiolo and 3% Colorino. Fermented simply with wild yeasts in concrete tanks, it is aged for three years in a large Slovenian oak barrel before bottling. A wine with a wonderful floral aroma and layer upon layer of complexity on the palate.
