La Sibilla 2017 Falanghina
Campi Flegrei is a unique and mysterious outcroppoing of volcanic earth just north of Naples on the Amalfi Coast. The di Meo family have worked the land here for five generations. This Falanghina is made from young but, most unusally, ungrafted vines. The result is a lovely wine with apple fruit flavours overlaid with a subtly smokey, mineral quality.
Pale-medium lemon-gold. Nutty and gently spicy, with savoury apple fruit and some smoke. Touch of reduction. Lively acidity, ripe, smoky, spicy orchard fruit, with lots of savoury, chalky character and a touch of salinity. Not super-long, but plenty of character from young vines. Smoky finish. Very good value.
