Foillard's Morgons are what great Beaujolais is all about. They are the opposite of the thin, bubblegum-flavoured wines which at one time threatened to entirely take over the region's wine production. Foillard and a handful of others led the resurrection of handmade, top quality Beaujolais, at the same time going a long way towards inventing the modern natural wine movement. Although there are now many followers working in his image, Foillard still makes some of the best Gamay anywhere in the world. The Cuvée Classique is a brilliant introduction to the style, having plenty of raspberry freshness combined with depth that rivals many a more illustrious red Burgundy.
