In 1248, a huge landslide sent 500 million square metres of rock crashing down Mount Granier, completely destroying five villages. The soil in which Frédéric Giachino's vines grow in this corner of Savoie is the result of this historic tragedy. Such rocky soil is not suitable for growing anything much, but the vines that do grow here make wine with a special quality. Giac' Potes is a blend of Gamay and Mondeuse. It is a pale light and lively red with some serious complexity beneath. A beautiful wine from this overlooked region.
