Equipo Navazos La Bota 76 Pedro Ximénez ‘Jerez’
Regular price £49Another extraordinary wine from Equipo Navazos - seekers of forgotten barrels of old Sherry. This PX has an average age of 30 years, and has been carefully selected from a solera in the inner sanctum of Bodegas Real Tesoro. Hugely dark and concentrated, yet somehow still fresh, this is a seriously refined version of Sherry's great sweet wine.
Dark brown like molasses. Concentrated and intense fig and raisin. Liquidised raisin and Christmas pudding edged with a fine bitter-orange note that brings freshness. It is obviously super-sweet but amazingly not super-cloying. Power and richness and total hedonism. Will surely do your teeth no good at all.18 points

100% Pedro Ximénez. Bottled July 2017. Fortified initially to 18.5% and aged in butts filled only to 5/6 of their capacity, to enhance the complexity of oxidative notes. With time, the alcohol has dropped to 16%. Sourced from a 12-butt solera in the inner sanctum of Bodegas Real Tesoro filled in 2000 with a very old PX that had been carefully selected from the stocks of a small producer in Sanlúcar no longer in business. Average age close to 30 years.
