Equipo Navazos La Bota 46 de Oloroso ‘Montilla’Regular price £35
The two Indiana Jones-like hunters behind Equipo Navazos scour the cellars of Jerez and the surrounding areas for one-off casks of Sherry. When they find what they are looking for - old (sometimes very old) wines of exceptional quality - they release them in a limited edition series of numbered bottlings. These are genuine treasures of the wine world, and some of the greatest, most undervalued fine wines on the planet. La Bota 46 is an (approximately) 25 year old Oloroso from Pérez Barquero in Montilla-Moriles, northeast of Jerez. In this area the wines are made entirely with Pedro Ximénez and so are rounder and fuller than most Sherries. This is dry, powerful and superbly complex.
From Pérez Barquero in Montilla-Moriles where the grape is Pedro Ximénez (as opposed to Jerez where it's Palomino Fino). Second press must. A selection of casks from the Solera Diógenes, located in third row at the Bodega El Puente. Average age around 25 years.
