Craven 2018 Clairette Blanche
Clairette Blanche was once planted widely in Stellenbosch, but this is one of the last (if not the last) blocks of vines remaining. The rest has been ripped out to make way for more fashionable international varieties. Craven are showing this neglected variety can make a fascinating, fine wine. With flavours of apple and pear and a soft mouthfeel balanced with fresh acidity, it's a moreish drink.
One component fermented in old neutral barrels. The other portion fermented in open top stainless steel tanks on the skins. All matured in old neutral barrels. Unfined and unfiltered. Minimal sulphur additions.
