Collecapretta 2018 Vigna Vecchia
The Mattioli family have lived in what the Romans called Collecapretta (the hill of the goats) since the 12th century. It's a tiny place, a hard-to-find hamlet in southern Umbria. On their small farm are olive trees, fields of grain, and four hectares of old vines. Although they only make about 8,000 bottles a year, they spread this across an array of different labels, spotlighting each native variety and its place on their farm. Like all their wines, this old vine Trebbiano is made as simply as possible, fermented with wild yeasts and bottled with no added sulfites at all. It is a true, authentic, natural wine made in tiny quantities which could only be from this place.
Old vine Trebbiano Spoletino (a superior Trebbiano). Fermented with wild yeasts in open top vats, without temperature control. No added sulfites. Unfined, unfiltered. Aged in cement, stainless steel or fibreglass.
