Chateau Musar Rosé 2018
Whereas most rosé follows the Provençal template - crisp, dry and fairly neutral - there is another strand of deeper, more complex, ageworthy wines epitomised by the likes of Lopez de Heredia's Tondonia Rosado. Musar's rosé is very much in the latter tradition. A blend of the native white grape varieties Obaideh and Merwah, together with some Cinsault for colour, it is released approximately five years from vintage. By this time it has taken on a distinctive orange colour and moreish flavours of stewed strawberry and rhubarb with a dry, mineral finish. It can be cellared for many more years, only gaining in complexity.
