Chateau Musar 2017 RoséRegular price £29
This wine is a marvel. Absolutely unlike 99% of rosé, it is oaky, smoky and with complex flavours of stewed strawberry and rhubarb. The closest thing to it we've tasted is Lopez de Heredia's impossible-to-get-hold-of Tondonia Rosé from Rioja. It ages just as long and grows increasingly fascinating. An antidote to the oceans of neutral pink wine currently flooding out of Provence.
Obaideh, Merwah, Cinsault. The colour comes from Cinsault, which is 5% of the blend. The rest is white (Obaideh and Merwah). Fermented and aged for 6 to 9 months in French oak barrels. Bottled a year after the harvest.
