Where the regions of Lombardy and Emilia Romagna meet is a hill 270m high. At the very top, straddling the two regions, sits Castello di Luzzano, a beautiful old castle surrounded by vineyards. Here the Fugazza family are in the unique position of being able to make wine from two different regions. Vena Rossa is from the Emilia-Romagna side, a blend of 60% Barbera and 40% Bonarda. It is old-school, somewhat savoury, unoaked red - an utterly delicious, food-friendly bargain.
