Casa Castillo 2017 Las Gravas
Regular price £38Casa Castillo was originally built in 1870 by Frenchmen fleeing the Phylloxera plague that was destroying Europe's vineyards. Since then Jose María Vicente and his father have replanted it with indigenous Spanish varieties, Monastrell being chief among them. Monastrell seems to be ideally suited to Jumilla's climate, and Casa Castillo are masters of it, producing some the best wines in south-east Spain. Las Gravas is from a high vineyard planted mainly with Monastrell but also some Syrah and Garnacha. It is a wonderfully soft, silky and refined Jumilla.
