ARPEPE are seriously old-school artisan producers. They have to be. Their alpine vineyards are on sheer, south-facing granite terraces that simply have to be worked by hand. In the winery, the traditional approach continues with gentle winemaking in old chestnut barrels. Their Rosso di Valtellina is an early-drinking wine made with fruit from their lowest altitude Nebbiolo vines.
Just mid ruby. Concentrated sour-cherry nose with a touch of stalkiness and cool, minerally hints with Nebbiolo's typical spiciness. Soft juicy palate with sandpaper-like tannins that follow the fruit in the most unostentatious way but still are present. Very pretty and original and seems much more weighty than its 12.5%. This wine would surprise anyone.
