Argyros 2017 Cuvée MonsignoriRegular price £28
Argyros' Cuvée Monsignori is made from ungrafted Assyrtiko vines which are around 200 years old - the oldest on the estate. 95% of the wine is fermented in stainless steel, 5% in large, used oak barrels. It is left on its lees for a year. The balance is superb, with the subtle oak influence adding complexity without overwhelming the fruit. This is one of the finest wines on Santorini from a master winemaker.
Beautiful, light-footed intensity. The freshness is so marked it is almost spicy, but it is fully integrated. Full of energy and pure, pure non-fruity fruit. Great length and finesse with underlying power. Some lees creaminess in the texture but overridden by the minerality.

Real freshness and subtlety. Lighter than most of these other varieties. Super-cool and fresh. Very smart label. Really beautiful wine.
