Roberto Anselmi is the finest producer in Soave, and a master of the Garganega grape variety. His 'Cru' wines are superb - the best of their type. And yet you won't find 'Soave' anywhere on the label. In 2000, frustrated with the bureaucracy and the proliferation of cheap, low quality wine bearing the Soave name, Roberto left the restrictions of the appellation behind in pursuit of excellence. His approach is the opposite to that of most of the producers making actual 'Soave'. His vineyards are planted in superior, hillside sites, at high density and with low yielding, higher quality clones of Garganega. In the cellar, the wines are treated with great care to achieve a perfect balance of intense richness and dry minerality.
Capitel Croce is 100% Garganega from 2.5 hectares of vines on the Zoppega hills around the town of Monteforte D'Alpone. Aged for eight months in used oak barrels, it is a superb, rich wine with aromas of apricot, almond and citrus, and a fine, mineral core.
