Andrea Occhipinti 2018 Rosso Arcaico
Regular price £21Lake Gradoli, about 30 miles north of Rome, is the largest volcanic lake in Europe. Above the lake, at around 450m altitude, sit long-established vineyards, planted with local grape varieties Aleatico and Grechetto Rosso. Andrea Occhipinti fell in love with the area as a student, and has since dedicated himself to making elegant wines from these little-known vines. Taking a natural approach, fermenting and ageing the wine in terracotta amphorae and bottling with minimal sulphur, he creates a wine which is wild, floral and with a beautiful cherry flavour. Utterly delicious.
50% Aleatico, 50% Grechetto Rosso. Up to 30 year old vines 450 metres above sea level on the volcanic slopes of Bolsena Lake, the largest volcanic lake in Europe. Fermented with ambient yeasts in terracotta amphorae. Aged in amphorae for six months and bottled with very little sulphur.
