The Ampeleia Estate in Maremma is owned by Elisabetta Foradori, Thomas Widmann and Giovanni Podini. So dedicated are they to biodiversity that of the 120 hectares they own, just 35 are planted with vines. Since 2009 they have gradually been moving from organic to biodynamic farming. Alicante is the local name for Grenache, and this is a beautiful, pure, elegant example of the variety. Aged for six months in cement tanks, it has a lovely aroma of ripe red fruits, and great freshness and energy on the palate.
