Marco de Grazia of Tenuta delle Nere makes fragrant, ethereal wines from Nerello Mascalese planted on the slopes of Mount Etna. His Etna Rosso is made with a mix of old and young vines and is the best introduction to the fine, raspberry-scented wines Etna is now famous for.
Pale-medium ruby. Maraschino cherry, with a smoky overtone and gentle nutty oak, plus some subtle spice. More smoky-spicy maraschino on the palate with brisk acidity and still pretty primary, fairly firm tannins. A benchmark for the ‘Pinot’ style of Etna Rosso. Good value.16+ points
