Methymnaeos 2019 Chidiriotiko Orange
Regular price £24On the island of Lesvos (or Lesbos), Methymnaeos make three wines - red, white and orange - all from the same grape variety, Chidriotiko. The grapes are organically farmed and fermentaion is by wild yeasts. The orange wine is unsual in that it doesn't see any skin contact. In fact, the only difference between this and the white version in winemaking terms is that no temperature control is used during fermentation. The higher temperature lends the wine an orange colour and makes it more robust and ageworthy. It has a wonderful orange and apricot fragrance, subtle tannins and great depth of flavour. A complex, unusual, fascinating wine.
