Famille Lieubeau 2015 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine ClissonRegular price £20
Muscadet is mostly thought of as a neutral, early-drinking wine. But there is another side to it. A small number of artisan producers make Muscadet from special sites which have amazing depth and ageing potential. Famille Lieubeau are one such estate, and their 'Cru' wines, made from old vines grown in the heart of the region, are stunning. Cru Clisson is made with 50 year old vines, farmed organically. The wine is aged on its lees for two years before release, and has the fresh, saline quality of the best Muscadet, alongside a richer character which deepens with age.
More mineral and precise than their Château-Thébaud, and perhaps more Muscadet-esque as a result – has that saline, tangy quality. Lovely persistence and precision. A touch of mushroom too – proper complexity and interest. Delicious!
