ARPEPE are seriously old-school artisan producers. They have to be. Their alpine vineyards are on sheer, south-facing granite terraces that simply have to be worked by hand. In the winery, the traditional approach continues with gentle winemaking in old chestnut barrels. Their Rosso di Valtellina is an early-drinking wine made with fruit from their lowest altitude Nebbiolo vines.
Rosso de Valtellina
Italy > Lombardy
In the heart of the best part of Valtellina - high up (350-400m) in the alps near the Swiss border. The vines are planted on sheer, south-facing slopes and seem to emerge direct from the granite. Everything must be done painstakingly by hand. The vines are up 50 years old.
Aged in a mix of chestnut casks, concrete and bottle before release.
An early-drinking style, ready on release. Could be kept for up to five years.
