If you've been hearing a lot of chatter about the brilliant next generation of Beaujolais producers and wondering where you should start - look no further than Julien Sunier. Julien crafts absolutely stunning, perfumed, elegant wines which have much more in common with top class red Burgundy than the Beaujolais of twenty years ago. His Régnié comes from two plots and the wine is aged for nine months in 10-15 year old Burgundy barrels. It is a wonderful, fresh wine full of red berry fruit with a savoury core.
Some smoky reduction and a dusty rocky overlay. Savoury spice but not in the least oaky. Firm and really chewy. Dry, compact texture and very mineral. Dark-red fruit, almost chalky in its dryness. Long and refined. Super-dry and needs food. Fresh and so stony/rocky in its attractively dry finish.

Two plots, one on sand and one on alluvion in Régnié, one of the Beaujolais 'crus'.
Aged nine months in 10-15 year old oak barrels from Roumier and Vougeraie. Bottled with minimal sulphur.
Beautiful on release, but has all the class of a far more expensive Burgundy and could be cellared for at least ten years.
