Chateau Musar 2010 WhiteRegular price £28
Chateau Musar's white wine is much less widely-known and appreciated than their red. Perhaps it's because it's completely unique and quite difficult to get your head around - the best description anyone has come up with is 'like a dry Sauternes'. For those of us who love it, it is a remarkable, uniquely complex and long-lived white. Made from two ancient native Lebanese varieties, it is aged for years in the Musar cellars before release, and can live for decades.
1200m up the seaward-facing slopes of Mount Lebanon and the foothills of Anti-Lebanon. Ungrafted vines planted between 50 and 90 years ago. Fermented and aged partly in oak barrels for 9 months and partly in stainless steel vats. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, then aged for a further six years in the Musar cellars before release.
