Greetings from Devon, where it's the time of year for getting the Christmas claret in - perhaps one with ten years of age behind it, drinking nicely now... Or it would be if we didn't have today's wine, which delivers everything we're looking for at under £20 a bottle - not likely in Bordeaux at the moment. This is Loire Valley Cabernet Franc from 2011 and an excellent producer. It is drinking beautifully.
Domaine de la Chevalerie is owned and run by the Caslot family, who trace their local roots back 13 generations. They have 33 hectares of vines which surround their winery, and which they farm biodynamically. The winemaking is gentle and considered. This is a superb example of the classic, restrained style of Loire Cabernet Franc. It has lovely dark fruit, fine tannins and perfect balance.
This is great value. Don't miss it.
