Old wine from Gauby

There's nothing we like more than well-priced, old wine - but it's not easy to find. Today's offer is a real rarity. We have a small parcel of well-cellared stock from a renowned producer - at prices that in our opinion offer exceptional value.

According to almost every article written about Gérard Gauby (including, it must be admitted, those on Wine & Greene), he is 'the uncrowned king of the Roussillon'. When he took over in 1985, the family estate was still selling all its grapes to the local co-op. Since deciding to go it alone, he has built an unrivalled reputation for producing elegant, old vine Roussillon wines which beautifully express the individual nuances of each vineyard.

The vast majority of the wine is consumed young - which is a shame because even the humblest age amazingly well. You very rarely get to drink these wines at full maturity, but we have small quantities of three which have been cellared perfectly and now have 14-15 years of age behind them. They are drinking superbly.

Gauby 2004 Les Calcinaires Blanc
This is Gauby's entry-level white wine. After 15 years, it has remarkable freshness, and at the price it must be one of the most characterful wines you could possibly buy.

Le Soula 2005 Rouge
Le Soula was created by Gauby and his former UK importers Richards Walford. It is a blend of Grenache, Cabernet and Cinsault with a little Syrah, from old vines. It has aged beautifully and is wonderfully harmonious. Another bargain.

Gauby 2005 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Vielles Vignes
This is Gauby's 'Premier Cru' red, made from 125 year old Carignan Vines. It is truly exceptional and as you would expect has really come into its own with all those years in the cellar. A wonderful wine.
