Cuvée Monsignori by Argyros, one of Santorini's finest wines

Hello from Devon, where today we're opening up the order book for one of the highlights of our year - a new release of the remarkable Cuvée Monsignori by Arygyros. If you're not yet convinced that the best wines of Santorini are truly world class (and still underpriced considering their exceptional quality) then this is the wine to persuade you. Year in, year out, it provides a benchmark for the Santorini vintage, and remains our bestselling Greek white for good reason. The 2019 is about to arrive and is available to pre-order online right now.

Very pale. Smoky nose with notes of fennel. Real mineral grip on the palate, still very youthful but a great ambassador for Santorini Assyrtiko. Bone dry and so refreshing! Masses of citrus and acidity. Very long and cooling indeed. Jancis Robinson MW, 24/07/2022

Matthaios Argyros is arguably Santorini's leading quality winemaker, and Monsignori has become the best-known of his top old vine cuvées. The grapes come from organically farmed, ungrafted Assyrtiko vines which are more than 200 years old - the oldest on the Argyros estate. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, partly with wild yeasts. The wine is then aged on its lees in stainless steel for 11 months before bottling. The reusult is a wine of of superb balance, with remarkable freshness, power and depth that can only come from old vine fruit, expertly handled. This is one of the finest wines on Santorini, vintage after vintage. Don't miss it.

Alongside this release of Monsignori we will also be receiving a small amount of the 2018 Cuvée Evdemon. This comes from biodynamically farmed, 150-200 year old Assyrtiko vines, and in this case 25% is fermented in oak.
